Post 21: rooted

January 15, 2024

OKAY. It is January 15th and I am officially doing this every day from here on out. I HAVEEEE to stop making excuses. People (friends, therapists, studies, etc.) have said for so long that journaling has many benefits. I have always said that it just isn’t for me…but it totally can be. It’s just a choice. So, here we go. I’m going to talk about church yesterday, where the message was about being rooted in Christ.

I’ve compiled some notes I took during the service:

  • You will find what your soul is looking for in God’s Word—it' brings about authority for change—not us, not a pastor

  • Change in your life (TRUE, lasting change) will not happen without God’s Word

  • When Satan was like “I’m gonna use the flesh to destroy you” God was like “Mmm bet, and just made the Word flesh (Jesus) to redeem & save us”

  • Don’t lose hope if you feel stuck in sin

  • God takes sinfulness to holiness <3

  • “ONLY GOD”—we are just servants (Apollos & Paul)

  • ALWAYS check the status of your roots

  • Time/age doesn’t determine our spiritual maturity

  • Do you have the roots to receive what God has prepared for you? What are you doing to deepen those roots?

  • Think: Pathos propagation…little guys can only survive in water, they aren’t ready for the soil—work every day to get ready for what God has prepared for you in each season

  • You need God’s Word to survive, it is readily available, & should be first in everything you do (every decision you make)

    • Along with this point: Are the decisions you’re making aligning with Matthew 6:33? Are you seeking FIRST the Kingdom of God in everything you do? Every choice you make?

  • Most prominent voices in the Bible spent more time in weakness than ministry…Jesus spent 30 years in obscurity & 3 years in ministry (!!!)

  • Matthew 5:5 “blessed are the meek”

  • Ask: What are you actually serving?

  • Our talents are meant to guide others to serving God, not us…be discerning if you notice people you’re influenced by want you to serve them—push others to serve God, not you

  • Plant yourself in God’s field so you don’t find yourself in some other broken person’s field

  • We have the most knowledge readily available that we have ever had, yet we’re unhappier than ever…all this information doesn’t produce the change we long for, only God and the Word can

  • Stop dismissing what God has called you to do because you feel unworthy

  • Get IN THE WORD to know & understand your assignment

  • BE INTENTIONAL with maturing spiritually

  • “I consider myself nothing” Paul

  • Be SO rooted (like the pathos that spreads) that when Satan inevitably attacks, GOOD and growth comes from it, not turmoil

  • When bad times come, stop asking WHY, but ask WHAT can come out of this

  • Don’t serve a servant, serve a Saviour

whyiscchappy? The Book of Life—the Living Word! God literally said...here, here's everything you'll ever need to know. Wild.
